Bitwarden 101
Bitwarden is the secure password tool Tierra uses to store, manage, and share credentials for Tierra and client accounts. It ensures team members have the passwords they need while keeping strong encryption and security. We use it to centralize password management, reduce risk, and streamline collaboration.
Starting out with Bitwarden
During onboarding
An invite will be sent to your Tierra email address with instructions for accessing Bitwarden.
When creating your account, you'll set a Master Password. This is your personal login for Bitwarden. Without it you won't be able to access key logins, so keep it secure.
When you've finished creating your Bitwarden account, reach out to your onboarding supervisor. They need to confirm your account before you can start using it.
Install the browser extension
Install the Bitwarden Chrome Extension and pin it so it always shows in the browser.
Web vault
You can log into your Bitwarden vault directly at vault.bitwarden.com.
Using Bitwarden to access accounts
- Log into Bitwarden in the Chrome Extension
- When Bitwarden has credentials for a site you're on, a small number appears by the shield icon
- Click the extension, select the login, and click "Fill"
Two-step logins
For some sites (MarkUp, ChatGPT, Loom), only the email field appears first:
- Click "Fill" in Bitwarden
- Click "Next" or "Continue" on the site to reveal the password field
- Click "Fill" again to complete login
FAQs
Can I see Tierra passwords directly?
No — you won't be able to unhide / see / access Tierra passwords in Bitwarden. This is by design. It won't prevent you from logging into Tierra or client accounts using the extension.
My client sent me a new account login. How do I get it in Bitwarden?
Only Bitwarden admins can add new logins. Reach out to an admin (Brennan) to get it added.
New passwords can sometimes take a bit to propagate. If it's been 24 hours since an admin added the password and you're still not seeing it in the extension, contact an admin.
Should I add a phone number when creating new accounts?
If a phone number is not required, don't add one. If required, use the team 2FA phone number from the #tierra-2fa Slack channel instead of a personal number.
Tips & tricks
You can use Bitwarden to save any personal accounts you want to keep secure — this lets you leverage Bitwarden's premium benefits without paying personally.
- Personal logins are NOT shared with other team members, even admins
- You can import personal login information from other password managers (LastPass, 1Password, etc.)
- You can export your personal logins from Bitwarden at any time, but cannot export Tierra logins
